These years, the Diabetes Online Community of interests (Commerce) extends far beyond blogs, Chitter and Facebook. There are then many dynamic new platforms to visit and share along!
As a self-described gregarious media maven who happens to have type 1 myself, I've been excited to share with DiabetesMine readers many lists of D-faves on these platforms, so far Instagram, and now… Tumblr.
Tumblr serves a unique purpose in the online community of interests. While it wont to be considered a "bridge platform," i.e. a happy metier between Twitter and blogs that's peppered with center-catching images, Tumblr posts actually feature a commingle of text and photo content, au fon combine the best of all things on mixer media.
And yes, our D-Community certainly has a presence on this program! You can find many of them simply away ingress the term "diabetes" (and all its variations) in the Tumblr search BAR.

Designer Diabetes
The All but section for this Tumblr feed makes me smile: "fashion interior decorator by day & a character 1 diabetic for life. My goal…low sugars and high fashion!" Designer Diabetes is run by Princess Grace of Monaco, an NYC fashion room decorator who features a net ton of style posts, on with travel, food for thought and diabetes stuff.
I particularly enjoyed the posts from her trip to China, where you can pick up her at work with her pump clipped to her belt and her Dexcom sensing element on her arm. Kelly notes: "Beingness a designer in NYC and considering all things fashion my life, wearing an insulin heart 24/7 was not my ideal accessory," but I think she's more than pull it hit, she might be setting a style!

Pancreas Problems
One of the hallmarks of Tumblr is unselfish, or curating, content for others, and Pancreas Problems is one of the accounts that does this extremely well for diabetes. On that point's not a lot of information obtainable about the girl doing the tumbling here — honorable that she was diagnosed with case 1 in April of 2013 (golden 5th diaversary!)
Pancreas Problems shares everything from inspiring yearbook photos of a medical service dog to oeuvre-in-progress diabetes art comparing arachnophobia to fear of insulin ticker nonstarter. She definitely finds the mix of humor, hope, abreaction and intellectual medical talk.
My Diabetes Secret
My Diabetes Secret is a community projection for joint our unnamed secrets about life with diabetes started by Chris Snider, who you may acknowledge from his podcast Just Speaking or from his job arsenic the community manager for D-tech company Tidepool. We've checked in with Chris connected a lot of topics o'er the years including podcasting and TCOYD's Smart Patients. Chris was inspired to start this Secrets feed from a web log post by longtime DOC member Kerri Osmerus eperlanus, World Health Organization formerly blogged about a Post Unacknowledged submission related to diabetes.
My Diabetes Underground a place where many can get things forth their chest without fear of judgement. Reading through with the secrets shared, I find myself thinking "me too" quite a lot. Information technology's not a course to follow for the faint of heart however, A there are submissions shared that are truly heartbreaking, addressing the scary sides of diabetes like complications, self-blame, isolation and depression.
Diabetic Selfies
Diabetic Selfies is another community-adjusted project that shares photos tagged with hashtag #diabeticselfie and submissions from blog following. The Polygenic disease Selfies feed exists to 1) Prove you're not only, 2) Bring home the bacon support, 3) Inspire confidence, 4) Create friends, and 5) Give back to the diabetes community. The meekness form requests photos that depict disconnected diabetes in a positive light.
Among the pictures that chronicle life with diabetes you will see: lots of insulin pumps, CGMs, tattoos, artistry and a trifle have it off. This one also leads to much of "me likewise" moments while viewing posts.
Diabetes Heroes
This is the Tumblr of the Diabetes Hero Squad, whose mission is to educate, sort out and harbor people with diabetes of all ages. They are animated superheroes, Captain Glucose and Meter Boy — the alter-egos of actors and comedians Bill Kirchenbauer, who lives with type 2 diabetes, and Brad Slaight, WHO lives with typewrite 1.
Their Tumblr feed is a discriminating balance of education, enlightenment and entertainment… heavy happening the entertainment. Most of their posts are memes that feature some smart one-liners, puns or timely references, with plenty of diabetes truths injected.
Hopefully some of you recognize the D-Hero Squad from Brad Slaight's illustrations featured regularly as break of our Sunday Funnies series of cartoons here at the 'Mine.
